What is an insurance pool?

A self-insurance pool is a homogeneous group of entities joined together to share in the cost and expenses of their losses. Losses are paid out of the funds received in the form of contributions or premiums.

My agency is a “for-profit” organization. Are we still eligible?

Yes, as long as there is a contract with a State of Arizona agency, other political sub-division or RBHA.

My agent does not know about SSCIP. How can I get SSCIP coverage?

You can only get SSCIP coverage through an Arizona licensed insurance agent. There is a partial listing of SSCIP Insurance Agencies under the Members tab, but you can also contact the Underwriting Unit of Southwest Risk Services (SWRS) at (602) 996-8810.

Our organization has several fund-raisers every year. Would they be covered?

Most events are covered, usually for an additional premium. However, there are several, such as rodeos, hot-air balloon or aircraft rides and a few others, that are excluded from the primary insurance package, for which special coverage may be purchased through your insurance agent.

I provide counseling at other facilities, as I do not have my own business property, but I have a contract with the State. Can I still get coverage?

Yes, your contract would most likely require General Liability, Professional Liability and Nonowned Auto protection, which SSCIP can provide.

Do you cover automobiles that transport clients?

Yes, vehicles transporting an agency's own clients can be covered if the entire account is written along with automobile coverage. However, if the sole purpose of the organization is transporting clients and no other services are provided (such as Dial-a-Ride), the agency is not eligible for SSCIP.

Why is SSCIP different from other insurers?

SSCIP is Member-owned and Member-directed.
SSCIP is a self-insurance pool comprised only of social and human service organizations that are contracted with a governmental entity or political sub-division.
Proactive loss control and risk management services are an integral part of the overall SSCIP program, not an afterthought.
SSCIP’s insurance protection is uniquely designed for its Members.
Professional consultants are available to aid in Members' education and training.
Dividends, though not guaranteed, have been paid in the past and are possible in the future, depending upon the Pool’s overall performance.
